In 2021, while reinforcing COVID-19 prevention and control and stimulating economic recovery, countries all over the world built up consensus on how to address severe climate change challenges and redouble environmental protection efforts. COP26 in Glasgow, UK and COP15 in Kunming, China marked two milestones on the worlds journey to Net-Zero and protecting biodiversity. However, in the post-pandemic era, in order to meet UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and to keep the global average temperature increase within 2oC and strive to limit it to 1.5℃ in accordance with the Poris Agreement, all nations need to act and work together, in a more proactive and pragmatic way, to ensure stable and resilient economic and social development and accelerate green and low-carbon transition.Asia plays an pivotal role in the global effort of Net-Zero transition and has taken concrete actions. With near half of the world GDP aggregate measured in purchasing power parity (PPP), as well as over half of total global carbon emissions, Asia is the key to world growth, green recovery and just transition. In 2021, Asian governments took active steps towards Net-Zero,including making Net-Zero commitments by more Asian countries including India, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, implementing green recovery policies, enhancing resilience to climate change and ensuring a just and low-carbon economic and social transition. Asian companies also accelerated their actions for green transition. They stepped up development and utilization of new energy sources such as solar, wind and hydrogen, accelerated innovation in carbon capture and energy storage technologies, promoted green investment and financing, committed to reducing and disclosing their ”carbon footprint” of the entire industrial chain, and actively supported global climate initiatives.
